I know…..visions of southern summers for most of you are filled with picnics, days spent at the lake or the pool, swimming and children shrieking with delight as they do cannonballs into the water, strolling along tree-lined streets while licking ice cream that is dripping down the cone before it reaches your hand, sitting on the front porch in the evening watching kids chase lightening bugs and listening to the whip-o-wills and frogs sing their songs……………………..well some of that is true, especially in early summer. However…….by the time July and August rolls around……most of us, especially myself, run from the air conditioned house to the air conditioned car. The humidity is so thick and heavy that it is sometimes hard to breathe and the heat can be stifling. Any yard work must be done early in the morning or you risk heat stroke. Sitting on the porch means you either drown yourself in poisonous chemicals or spend the next week scratching the multiple mosquito bites. Yes, it’s this time of year I start counting down the days until fall arrives.
