Like it or not, these 4 legged fur babies (dogs) that we love so much are naturally carnivores. They are not meant to eat corn, soy protein isolate, soybean meal, or any of the other long list of chemicals that are in the dry dog food that we can purchase for them. Not to mention, these products have to be cooked at such a high temperature so that they can sit on the shelf in a store without going bad, no nutrients can survive that process. Knowing this, I decided years ago to start making my own dog food. I have a dachshund named Vegas (my daughter named him), that is almost 13 years old. I truly believe that making his food has made a huge difference in his long life and quality of life.
Making your own dog food is ridiculously easy. Please give it a try.
Vegas’ Crock Pot Dog Food
- 2 lbs of meat (ground beef, chicken, venison, or whatever you have to use)
- 2 frozen packages of veggies, greens, spinach, etc. (vary them each time)
- Enough water to just barely cover everything.
- Two 12- cup muffin pans
Place all ingredients in your crock pot, stir to combine, cover, and cook on low for 6 hours.

Let cool slightly. With a ladle or cup with a handle, scoop out enough of the food to fill each of the muffin cups in the pans. You many need another pan or re-use one. Once all of the muffin cups are filled, place the pans in the freezer. Freeze till solid, then pop out the “muffins” and place them in freezer bags to put back in the freezer. Now you can either place one muffin in the microwave to unthaw or do as I do and each night place one in the fridge to unthaw by morning.
I think your Pups will love this and can it be any easier??????
