pineapple sage

My Favorite Plant

My latest favorite plant (it can change several times a year) is Pineapple Sage. These are some of the reasons why.

  • Every part of the plant is useful.
  • Late summer brings bright red tubular flowers that attract hummingbirds and pollinator bees.
  • You can’t walk past it without rubbing the leaves between your fingers in order to smell that delicious pineapple aroma.
  • It Is a perennial here and grows to around 5’ tall.
  • The leave and flowers are edible.
  • Leaves can be steeped and made into a tasty tea that calms your nerves, aids in digestions and settles an upset stomach. They are also used fresh to muddle in a cocktail, and included in potpourri.
  • So far, the deer have not eaten it.

What more can you ask of one little plant?????
