My latest favorite plant (it can change several times a year) is Pineapple Sage. These are some of the reasons why.
- Every part of the plant is useful.
- Late summer brings bright red tubular flowers that attract hummingbirds and pollinator bees.
- You can’t walk past it without rubbing the leaves between your fingers in order to smell that delicious pineapple aroma.
- It Is a perennial here and grows to around 5’ tall.
- The leave and flowers are edible.
- Leaves can be steeped and made into a tasty tea that calms your nerves, aids in digestions and settles an upset stomach. They are also used fresh to muddle in a cocktail, and included in potpourri.
- So far, the deer have not eaten it.
What more can you ask of one little plant?????
